okay, so what do I wear?

complement each other,

but don't match.

Although matching can be cute, it's generally best to pick outfits with the same vibe but they're not exactly the same!

neutrals + earth tones.

You don't want your outfit to distract from you two awesome people! Oftentimes, a brighter color will reflect weird tones onto your skin. Neutral and earth toned outfits make your photos truly POP (trust me!) If you'd like to add a pop of color, make sure it's only one article of clothing between the both of you, as seen in the photo to the right!

flatter your body shape.

Wear clothes that make you feel confident, because if you're confident, the better your photos will turn out!

accessorize + layer.

If you opt for only one outfit during your session, use accessories and layers to change up your look! You can add on a hat, scarf, jacket, necklace, or whatever you want to switch it up at your session.

helpful tips

Choose outfits that match the backdrop

Think about where your photos will be taken. Neutral colors work beautifully in nature, while bold colors can pop in urban settings. Try to pick outfits that complement the environment rather than compete with it.

Coordinate instead of matching

Gone are the days of everyone wearing the same white shirt and jeans. Choose 2–3 colors and have everyone coordinate within that palette for a more natural and visually pleasing look.

Start with mom’s outfit first

Once mom picks something she feels confident in, it’s much easier to build everyone else’s outfits around those colors and style.

Avoid large logos and busy graphics

Logos, characters, and bold graphics can distract from the most important part of the photo — your faces. Simple patterns and solid colors photograph best.

Add layers and texture

Cardigans, jackets, scarves, and flowy dresses add movement and depth to photos. Layers also give your images more visual interest.

A little makeup goes a long way

Even a simple lipstick or gloss can help prevent you from looking washed out in photos and adds a nice pop of color.

Dress for comfort (especially for kids)

Kids move, play, and explore during sessions. Comfortable clothing helps them stay happy and allows for more natural moments.

Bring a backup outfit for little ones

Spills and dirt happen! Having an extra outfit for young kids can save the day during your session.

Choose comfortable shoes

Many sessions involve walking through grass, dirt paths, or uneven ground. Comfortable shoes will help you enjoy the experience more.
